mini golf tips tricks 18 holes how to play better

Let’s be honest: most people approach mini golf with a technique that can best be described as “enthusiastic” or “cautious”. Some hit the ball too hard or tap it ever so slightly. They aim straight at the hole when the hole clearly wants you to aim at the wall. They discover on hole 7 that you’re supposed to read the slope. They’ve already written down a very impressive score by that point.

If you’re heading to Eden Alvor for a round – or coming back for a second go and determined to do better – here are some observations that might help.

Read the surface before you putt. The greens at Eden aren’t all flat, and some holes are specifically designed to be more of a fun challenge. If you don’t have the patience to take a second to look at the angle, the borders, and where the obstacle is, each hole may have a tip right at the start to give you some idea of how to approach it.

Use the barriers if you must. Mini golf is not golf. The wall is not your enemy – it’s infrastructure. Some holes at Eden are designed with this indirect play in mind, where the direct line to the hole isn’t actually the best line. Watch someone who plays regularly and you’ll notice they bounce the ball in ways that look wrong and end up being very right.

The course at Eden winds through the tropical garden, and some holes run across terrain that changes elevation slightly. Uphill putts need more force; downhill putts need restraint. The most common error on downhill greens is hitting too hard, watching the ball skate past the hole, and spending the next four shots trying to sort it out.

Don’t ignore the characters. Baz, Mr. Cob Ra and the Eden Kong are there partly because they’re there to surprise you when you least expect it and enjoy the pleasant final hole to try and aim for the bulls eye and get ahead on your score.

Finally: the courtyard is right there for mid-round breaks. you can always stop, get an ice cream or drink, regroup and then continue at your own pace
